Compagno was born in Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, California, where her father was the director of the blood bank. Her parents, Katherine (née Bertsch, of English, Bohemian, and German origin) and John Compagno, of Italian descent from Sicily, raised her and her two sisters in El Cerrito, California. She earned a B.A. in political science from the University of Washington, where she received the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps Cadet of the Quarter Award, but she did not complete ROTC.
She earned a J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 2006, where she was president of the Federalist Society and articles editor for the Intellectual Property Bulletin. Compagno’s father was a commander in the. Navy Medical Corps and two uncles served in the United States Army.Her second cousin and his wife were US Navy aviators. Her great-grandfather and several other ancestors served in WWII, and in 1930, Compagno.

Career
After clearing the California bar, she worked as a criminal defense attorney in San Francisco while concurrently captaining the Oakland Raiders’ cheering group, the Raiderettes. The NFL appointed her as an ambassador, and she promoted the NFL brand in Beijing and Shanghai. She was also one of five NFL cheerleaders chosen by the USO to visit US troops stationed in Iraq and Kuwait. Compagno served as a Senior Judge Judicial Extern for John T. Noonan on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit before becoming a federal attorney at the Social Security Administration. She passed the Washington bar exam and has worked as a lawyer in Cape Town, South Africa, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
In 2018, Compagno joined Fox News as a contributor and legal analyst. She was a semi-regular co-host of the weekday discussion show The Five and appeared on other FNC shows, such as Gutfeld!, to offer thoughts or legal analysis on current events.
