Born in Arlon, in the Belgian province of Luxembourg, Castagne started his football journey with local clubs US Waltzing and Lorrain Arlon. He later joined the youth academy of Virton, the region’s most prominent club. While attending boarding school near Standard Liège, he trained with their youth teams during the week but continued to play weekend matches for Virton.
Castagne joined Genk after Standard Liège opted not to sign him permanently. He signed a three-year professional contract with Genk in June 2013. His impressive performances earned him a spot in the first-team training camp in January 2014 under coach Mario Been, and he was permanently promoted to the senior squad for the second half of the season. Castagne made his Belgian Pro League debut on 14 September 2014, starting in a match against Club Brugge under new head coach Alex McLeish. He scored his first senior goal on 2 May 2015 in a dominant 7–1 home win.
