Parish was born in Yeovil, Somerset, to parents Bill and Thelma Parish. She has a sister, Julie, and a brother, musician John Parish. She received her education at Preston School and Yeovil College. Parish began her acting career at a young age, recalling her first stage performance at the age of two in a pantomime in the village of Tintinhull, where she played a pearl in an oyster. She later became involved with the Yeovil Youth Theatre.
