Strahovski was born on July 30, 1982, in Werrington Downs, a suburb of Sydney, Australia. She is the only child of Bożena, a lab technician, and Peter Strzechowski, an electronic engineer, both of whom are Polish emigrants from Warsaw. At the age of five, her family moved to Bass Hill and later to Maroubra. Strahovski began taking acting lessons at 12. After completing high school, she attended the University of Western Sydney’s Theatre Nepean, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in performance in 2003. She then worked professionally in Australian theater for three years before securing her role in the American series Chuck.
