Manuel Benson began his professional career with Lierse, where he made his debut on April 19, 2014, against KV Oostende. His best season was 2016-17, when he scored seven goals and led the assists list, sharing first place with Kevin Kis. Benson joined RC Genk in 2017 before being loaned out to Royal Excel Mouscron for the 2018-19 season. He scored six goals and was one of Mouscron’s leading assist contributors. Early life
Benson was born in Lokeren, Belgium, to Angolan father Jorge Hedilazio and Belgian mother Gina Pieters. His parents first met in the 1990s at Bobby’s Club, a dance bar in Lokeren where his father played for the local club.

Club career
Benson made his top-flight debut for Lierse on April 19, 2014, against KV Oostende in a 2-0 home defeat. He replaced Ahmed Sayed after 87 minutes.[6] In the 2016-17 season, he appeared in 37 league games for Lierse and scored seven goals, four of which came in nine Europa League play-off games. This season, Benson tied with Kevin Kis for the league’s leading assist giver. In 2017, he joined RC Genk and was loaned out to Royal Excel Mouscron for the 2018-19 season. He played 28 games for Mouscron and scored six goals. Benson had the most assists throughout the regular season, trailing just Hans Vanaken and Alejandro Pozuelo, both with eight. In September 2019, he joined Royal Antwerp FC on.
Benson played five games in the Belgian First Division A and three in the UEFA Europa League in 2020-21, scoring one in Antwerp’s 3-1 victory over Ludogorets, which advanced them to the Round of 32. Benson signed a loan agreement with Eredivisie club PEC Zwolle until the conclusion of the season on January 26, 2021. In the 2020-21 Eredivisie, he recorded four assists in 13 league games, the highest of any player on his squad.

Benson made his debut for Angola in a World Cup qualifier against Eswatini on June 7, 2024, at Estádio 11 de Novembro. He came in for Felício Milson in the 69th minute of Angola’s 1-0 win.
