Luke McCowan Biography Luke McCowan (born 9 December 1997) is a Scottish professional footballer who currently plays for Scottish Premiership team Dundee. Luke, who came up through the ranks at Ayr United, made his debut in 2017 and dazzled during the Championship campaign last season, netting nine goals for the Honest Men. He scored goals in matches against Alloa, Hearts, and Morton. Luke, 23, signed a two-year deal with Dundee in the summer of 2021.

The 2018-19 season saw McCowan feature more regularly for The Honest Men, although this was not until later in the season, although he did earn his first start in a Challenge Cup tie away to Queen’s Park at Hampden Park. Following this, he continued to make a further three substitute appearances before his next start; replacing Declan McDaid late on in a 3-0 win over Beith Juniors in the Scottish Cup and in away defeats to Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Falkirk in the Ch He subsequently came in as a late substitute once more, this time in a home loss to Partick Thistle, however due to impressing in his brief seven-minute cameo, he was given his first League start against Partick Thistle at Firhill.

Early life
McCowan was born in Greenock, Scotland and went to Notre Dame High School.
Personal life
McCown’s brother, Josh, also played quarterback in the NFL. Randy, his older brother, attended Texas A&M University and played quarterback. Luke and his wife Katy have four sons and two girls. McCown is a Christian. In September 2015, he appeared in a series of TV advertisements for Verizon Wireless, discussing Verizon’s dependability and backup generators, joking, “I bet if they just had the chance, some of those backups would really shine.” McCown began a game against the Carolina Panthers shortly after the commercial ran due to an injury to starting quarterback Drew Brees, throwing for 310 yards in a 22-27 loss.

Career
McCowan and East End United F.C. won the West of Scotland title in 2015. He had a hard day as a member of Ayr United’s youth teams, having to get up at 5 a.m. to work as a lifeguard at Waterfront Leisure Complex before attending gym sessions in the afternoon and driving for over an hour to practice with the club. On July 1, 2017, McCowan signed his first professional contract with Ayr United for one year. In his first season, he made five appearances and scored one goal in all competitions, one of which came in the league. On June 6, 2019, it was revealed that McCowan had been awarded a two-year contract following great reviews from the game against Partick Thistle in late April.
On June 1, 2021, McCowan signed a two-year contract with Scottish Premiership club Dundee. He debuted for the club in the Scottish League Cup against Brora Rangers. McCowan scored his first competitive goal for the Dee the following week, against Montrose. He would later score his first Premiership goal, sealing a victory over Aberdeen.

Club Career
McCowan signed his first professional contract with Ayr United on July 1, 2017, and made his senior debut shortly after going on as a late substitute for Craig Moore in a 5-1 win over Clyde at Somerset Park in League Cup group stage. He went on to score his first goal for the club in his next outing, coming on as a late substitute for Chris Higgins away against East Stirlingshire in the Challenge Cup match. His second outing came in extra time in the next round of the Challenge Cup, where Ayr lost on penalties to Montrose. McCowan went on to make his league debut in a 2-0 away win against Queen’s Park at Hampden.
In September 2017, he appeared in League One, replacing Michael Moffat. He later appeared in a 6-2 Scottish Cup victory over Aberdeen-based junior club Banks o’ Dee in November, but did not play for the first team for the remainder of the season.
