Zirkzee was born in Schiedam, on the outskirts of Rotterdam, and began playing for local clubs Hekelinger and Spartaan ’20 as a child before being noticed by Den Haag. At 15, he joined Dutch giants Feyenoord, but just a year later did Bayern come knocking, and the highly rated kid was soon packing his bags for Säbener Straße. Zirkzee, who was born in Schiedam to a Nigerian mother and a Dutch father, started playing football with VV Hekelingen when he was five years old, when the family relocated to Spijkenisse. After impressing early on, he transferred to Spartaan ’20’s youth section in 2010, where he played alongside his cousin, Nelson Amadin. He then left for ADO Den Haag in 2013, before joining the Feyenoord junior academy in 2016. One year later, Zirkzee departed the Feyenoord academy in the Netherlands to join Bayern Munich’s junior system. On March 1, 2019, Zirkzee scored a hat-trick in his Bayern Munich II debut.
