Ennis competed in her first track and field event in 1996. In 2005, she won her first significant international heptathlon competition at the European Junior Championships. She finished ninth in the European Championships and took home a bronze medal from the Commonwealth Games in 2006. Early life and family
28 January 1986, in Sheffield, the birthdate Vinnie Ennis and Alison Powell have two kids, Ennis-Hill being one of them. Carmel is her younger sister. Her mother is an English social worker from Derbyshire, and her father is a self-employed painter and decorator from Jamaica. Her mother preferred the high jump, but her father occasionally ran track at school. During the 1996 school summer vacation, they took her to a Start:Track event at the Don Valley Stadium to introduce her to athletics. She took home a pair of trainers as her first sports award. It was there that she met Toni Minichiello, who would go on to train her. Professional athletics career
In February 2004, at the age of eighteen, Ennis achieved one of her first victories as a senior. In a time of 8.60 seconds, she won the 60-meter hurdles at the Northern Senior Indoor Championships. She had won three championships in the Northern Junior Indoor Championship two weeks prior in the 60-meter sprint, 60-meter hurdles, and high jump.[/30] Ennis also placed third in the 60-meter hurdles at the AAA Indoor Championships in Sheffield in February, clocking in at 8.43 seconds.
