Early life
Freeman was born in California’s Fountain Valley. Freeman’s father and mother are both from Ontario, Canada. His mother is from Peterborough, and his father is from Windsor. The Atlanta Braves selected Freeman in the second round of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft, with the 78th overall pick. He made his professional debut with the Gulf Coast Braves in 2007 and later played for the Rome Braves in the Class A South Atlantic League in 2008. He was ranked as the Braves’ fifth-best prospect by Baseball America prior to the 2009 season.
