Club career
Ederson, who was born in Osasco, São Paulo, began playing football in 2008 with the local team São Paulo FC. He spent one season there before moving to Portugal to play for Benfica. He played as a junior for two years at the age of sixteen before being released in 2011 and eventually joining Ribeirão, a team in the Second Division. Ederson signed a deal with Rio Ave, a Primeira Liga team, in the summer of 2012, and stayed there for another year. After many strong outings and a call-up to the Brazil under-23 team, he inked a new deal with the team in April 2015, which would keep him there until 2019. Ederson returned to the Portuguese champions Benfica on June 27, 2015. He then formally signed a five-year contract with the team in July.
