Darshan Thoogudeepa Biography: Darshan Thoogudeepa (born 16 February 1977), better known by his moniker Darshan, is an Indian actor, producer, and distributor who specialises in Kannada films. One of the top modern Kannada actors, Darshan founded Thoogudeepa Productions in 2006, producing Jothe Jotheyali, in which he made a special appearance. Darshan received critical acclaim for his roles in Anatharu (2007) and Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (2012), the latter for which he played the 19th-century warrior Sangolli Rayanna, earning him the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Actor. In the middle of the 1990s, he started performing in short films and soap operas. The 2002 movie Majestic featured him in the lead role for the first time. Darshan, the son of the renowned Kannada actor Thoogudeepa Srinivas, encountered challenges despite his family background in the industry. He began his career as an assistant director and took on various odd jobs before achieving success. He initially appeared in several TV serials, notably in S Narayan’s ‘Ambika’, where Narayan noticed his talent and cast him in a supporting role in the 1997 movie ‘Mahabharatha’. However, it was his performance as Daasa in the 2001 film ‘Majestic’, directed by P. N. Satya, that brought him fame.

Early life

On February 16, 1977, in Ponnampet, Kodagu district, Karnataka, India, actor Thoogudeepa Srinivas and actress Meena welcomed Darshan into the world. At birth, Hemanth Kumar was his given name. Srinivas starred in the 1966 Kannada film Thoogudeepa, which brought him notoriety and led to the moniker being attached to his name. He was a well-liked performer in his day and had reservations about Darshan pursuing a career in cinema acting. Darshan enrolled himself against his will in Shimoga’s Ninasam, a theatre training institute, before to his father’s 1995 death. In September 2011, Darshan became embroiled in a scandal after his spouse report him to the police on charges of domestic abuse. After that, he was taken into jail and held at Parappana Agrahara for 14 days. But the conflict in the marriage was eventually resolved out of court.
