Prichard Colón Biography 2024
The story of 30-year-old former professional boxer Prichard Colón is one of the most heartbreaking in the world of boxing. Born in the United States and raised in Puerto Rico, Colón began boxing at the age of 10 and quickly developed a passion for the sport. At 21, he made the decision to turn professional in 2013. From then until 2015, Colón built an impressive record of 16 wins and just 1 loss. However, his career came to a devastating halt following his final fight in October 2015. In that bout, Colón faced Terrel Williams in what would become his last match. During the fight, he was repeatedly struck in the back of the head by Williams—blows that went unnoticed by the referee. These illegal hits caused bleeding in Colón’s brain, and after the fight, he collapsed in the dressing room.

Early Life and Amateur Career
Prichard Colón was born in Maitland, Florida, to parents Richard and Nieves Colón, the latter a retired waitress. At the age of 10, his father decided to move the family to Puerto Rico so that Prichard could compete for the island in amateur boxing events. They relocated to the rural town of Orocovis, Puerto Rico, while his mother and older brother stayed in Florida. Colón began his boxing career at the Albergue Olímpico in Salinas, Puerto Rico, where he earned the nickname “Digget” due to his height, inspired by the term “digger.” After high school, he studied Business Administration at the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón in San Juan.
As an amateur, Colón established himself as a top-tier boxer, winning five national championships in the 141 and 152-pound weight divisions. He also claimed the gold medal at the 2010 Pan American Youth Championship in the 64 kg category. Colón competed in the Brazil Pre-Olympics in hopes of qualifying for the 2012 London Olympics but was defeated in the third round by Venezuelan boxer Gabriel Maestre. He ended his amateur career with an impressive record of 170-15.
