Early life
Born on October 2, 1997, Borgohain is an Assamese native from Baramukhia village in the Golaghat district. Tiken and Mamoni Borgohain are her parents. Her father Tiken is a modest businessman who found it difficult to provide for his daughter’s aspirations. As the youngest of three sisters, Lovlina was a former practitioner of Muay Thai. She developed an interest in boxing after witnessing her twin sisters, Lima and Licha, take up kickboxing and follow the same path. Borgohain competed in tryouts held by the Sports Authority of India at her high school, Barpathar Girls High School. Renowned coach Padum Chandra Bodo saw her at the SAI STC Guwahati in 2012 and chose her to train with him in order to master the fundamentals of boxing and reach the highest level of proficiency. Sandhya Gurung later served as her coach.
Career
In the first India Open International Boxing Tournament in New Delhi in 2018 and the second India Open International Boxing Tournament in Guwahati in 2018, she took home gold and silver medals, respectively. The biggest break for Borgohain’s career occurred when she was chosen to compete in the welterweight boxing division at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. But when it was revealed that she had not gotten an official notification regarding her selection, her announcement became controversial. She was informed of her choice after a significant media outlet broke the story.[9][16] She was defeated in the quarterfinals of the Commonwealth Games by Sandy Ryan of the United Kingdom. In the end, Sandy Ryan took home the gold in that division. Her success led to her being chosen for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Lovlina Borgohain attended Barpathar Girls High School in Golaghat to finish her elementary schooling. She then continued her education at B. Borooah College in Guwahati.
