Japan’s Miyazaki is the birthplace of Brown. Her father, Stuart, is British, while her mother, Mieko, is Japanese. Ocean Brown is the younger brother that she has. Her family name is written only in kana script, as is customary for non-traditional Japanese names. Her given name is spelled in Japanese as スカイ (Sukai) or as 澄海 (Sukai) in kanji. Before relocating to Japan, her British father spent a number of years living in the US. Brown resides in Miyazaki, but he travels to the US for about half the year. Her preschool featured a skate park, and her family is a skateboarding family. Since there are no skate parks in her hometown of Takanabe, Miyazaki, she has a skating ramp in her backyard.
