Piyush Goyal Biography Piyush Vedprakash Goyal, born on 13 June 1964, is an Indian politician and chartered accountant. He has held various portfolios in the Government of India, including Minister of Textiles, Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. He was appointed as a Cabinet Minister on 3 September 2017. Presently representing Maharashtra as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, he also serves as the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha. He used to be the top money person of the BJP. The 59-year-old Goyal has been an all-India second-rank holder chartered accountant and a second-rank holder in law from Mumbai University. Goyal was born in Mumbai to Chandrakanta Goyal and Ved Prakash Goyal. Goyal commenced his professional journey as an investment banker and held positions on the boards of India’s prominent commercial banks, including the State Bank of India (2001–2004) and Bank of Baroda (2002–2004) as a Government appointee.
