Early Life

Phillip Schofield was born in Oldham but moved to Newquay, Cornwall, at 18 months old. His father, Brian, worked with Bilbo, a company that produced the first surfboards in the UK, and passed away in 2008, while his mother, Pam, is retired. He has a younger brother, Timothy Schofield, who was convicted of sexual offenses against a teenage boy in April 2023. During the trial, it was revealed that Timothy had confided some details of his offenses to Phillip in September 2021, but Phillip did not report it to the police, instead suggesting his brother seek medical help.

Schofield attended Trenance Infant School and Newquay Tretherras School. His first job was at a local ice-cream kiosk. He often visited the Radio 1 Roadshow, which he described as a memorable experience. At 15, he started his media career with a Sunday show on Hospital Radio Plymouth. Despite moving at a young age, he proudly identifies with his Lancashire roots, as Oldham was part of Lancashire until 1974. After years of writing to the BBC, Schofield became the youngest employee at BBC Radio at age 17, working as a bookings clerk and tea boy at Broadcasting House in London.
