Early life
Shanto is from Ranhat in Rajshahi, and he began his cricket career at the Clemon Rajshahi Cricket Academy. He cycled and walked to the academy every day because it was over 20 kilometers away from his house. He married Sabrin Sultana Ratna in 2020, while the COVID-19 epidemic was still in effect.

Domestic career
He made his Twenty20 (T20) debut on November 8, 2016, for Comilla Victorians in the 2016-17 Bangladesh Premier League. In December 2017, he and Mizanur Rahman scored 341 runs as the highest opening partnership in a domestic first-class match in Bangladesh, playing for Rajshahi Division against Dhaka Metropolis in the 2017-18 National Cricket League. He scored the most runs in the 2017-18 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, totaling 749 in 16 games. In October 2018, he was named to the Khulna Titans squad during the 2018-19 Bangladesh Premier League draft. In August 2019, he was one of 35 cricketers named to a training camp for Bangladesh’s 2019-20 season. In November 2019, he was chosen to play for the Khulna Tigers in the 2019-20 Bangladesh Premier League. Najmul scored a century for Minister Group Rajshahi versus Fortune Barishal on December 8, 2020, during the 2020-21 Bangabandhu T20 Cup.

International career
In November 2016, he was nominated to a 22-man preparation team to practice in Australia ahead of Bangladesh’s tour of New Zealand. In January 2017, he was added to Bangladesh’s Test team for the second Test against New Zealand. On January 20, 2017, he made his Test debut in the second Test against New Zealand. In August 2018, he was one of twelve debutants named to Bangladesh’s 31-man preliminary team for the 2018 Asia Cup. He made his One-Day International (ODI) debut for Bangladesh against Afghanistan on September 20, 2018. In December 2018, he was nominated to Bangladesh’s ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup squad. Having been dropped from the team since the 2018 Asia Cup.
He was picked up again for the 2019-20 Bangladesh Tri-Nation Series. He made his T20I debut for Bangladesh against Zimbabwe on September 18, 2019. In November 2019, he was selected captain of the Bangladesh squad for the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Bangladesh. Later that month, he was named captain of Bangladesh’s men’s cricket side at the 2019 South Asian Games. The Bangladesh team won the gold medal, defeating Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the final.
