High School Career

Ellis began his high school basketball career at Eustis High School in his hometown of Eustis, Florida, before transferring to Leesburg High School in Leesburg for his junior year. College Career

Ellis began his college career at Florida SouthWestern, where as a freshman he averaged 8.3 points and 3 rebounds per game, earning Second Team All-Suncoast Conference honors. On January 4, 2020, he set a school record by scoring 41 points in a 92–77 victory over St. Petersburg College. In his sophomore season, Ellis significantly improved, averaging 18.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. He set program records for points and steals in a single season and earned recognition as a Second Team NJCAA Division I All-American and Suncoast Player of the Year.

For his junior year, Ellis transferred to the University of Alabama, choosing the Crimson Tide over schools like Iowa State, Kansas State, and Western Kentucky. During his first season with Alabama, he averaged 5.5 points and 4 rebounds per game. As a senior, Ellis was named to the SEC All-Defensive Team after averaging 12.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2 steals per game.

Professional Career

After going undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft, Ellis signed a two-way contract with the Sacramento Kings on July 2, 2022. He played seven games in the 2022 NBA Summer League, where he impressed by averaging 11.4 points on 44.1% shooting, including a strong 46.9% from three-point range, along with 3.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.0 steals per game.

Ellis re-signed with the Kings on another two-way contract on July 2, 2023. On February 9, 2024, he signed a multi-year contract with Sacramento. Later that season, on April 9, Ellis scored a career-high 26 points in a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
