Born in Missoula, Montana, to Anne (née Doyle) and Robert “Bob” Ferguson, Jesse was named after his paternal grandmother, Jessie Uppercue Ferguson, and his great-grandfather, Jesse. He has two siblings, Ben and Kelly. Ferguson’s family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he spent most of his childhood. At age eight, he decided to pursue acting and joined the Albuquerque Children’s Theater, participating for six years. While attending St. Pius X High School, he performed in productions like Bye Bye Birdie and Li’l Abner, competed on the speech and debate team, and worked as a dancer and singer at Cliff’s Amusement Park. His parents divorced when he was 18. After graduating in 1994, Ferguson moved to New York City to attend The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA).
