Greg LeMond Biography- Gregory James LeMond (born June 26, 1961) is a retired road racer from the United States. LeMond won the Tour de France three times and the Road Race World Championship twice, making him the only American to do it. In 1981, LeMond began his professional cycling career. He won the Road World Championship two years later, becoming the first American male cyclist to do it. LeMond is the first non-European professional cyclist to win the Tour de France, having done so in 1986. In 1987, LeMond was shot with pellets by mistake and gravely injured while hunting. Early life and amateur career
LeMond was born in Lakewood, California, and grew up in the Washoe Valley, a ranching region on the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain range between Reno and the family home about 2.5 miles north of Carson City.[His parents are Bob and Bertha LeMond (deceased 2006), and he has two sisters, Kathy and Karen.
