Early and personal life
Born in Dundee, Scotland, Eilish McColgan was the daughter of athletes Liz and Peter McColgan. She trains under her mother, Elizabeth Nuttall, a former 10,000-meter world champion and Olympic silver medallist who was better known as Liz McColgan during her racing career. She is a member of the Hawkhill Harriers Club in Dundee. After graduating from the University of Dundee in 2013 after attending the High School of Dundee, she pursued studies in accountancy and mathematics.
McColgan is the stepdaughter of long-distance runner John Nuttall and the stepsister of his son, para-athlete Luke Nuttall, after her mother’s second marriage. Michael Rimmer, a former middle-distance runner for Great Britain and England, is her partner. While she was abroa for training in 2019, her East Didsbury home was broken into. In addition to claiming that the house had been “completely ransack” and that several priceless items had been taken during the break-in, McColgan also took issue with the way the police handle her case.

Career
She took home two medals in 2006: a bronze at the International Under-17s Schools Championships and a silver at the Scottish Schools Championships in the 1500 meters. She finished fifth in the 1500-meter Scottish Senior Championships in 2007. Bronze in the 1500 m at the 2008 Scottish Indoor Championships went to her. McColgan was chosen to compete in the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games in India, but she had to heal from a serious knee injury that require a year and a half.
