Player profile

Early in his career, Alli was largely regarded as one of the best young midfielders of his time, winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award twice in a row. He was noted for his versatility and goal-scoring ability, especially while playing as a second striker. Mauricio Pochettino, Alli’s manager at the time, stated in 2017: “In the box, he looks like a striker, and outside the box, he plays like a midfielder.” Rafael van der Vaart described Alli as “fast, fluid, and has a great skill set,” while future Everton manager Frank Lampard lauded Alli’s intelligence and ability to “get into the box without being marked.” He has, however, been regularly accused of diving and has received requests for simulation.
