Personal life
Daya Shankar Singh is a native of Rajpur village in the Bihar district of Buxar. He was born to Vindyachal Singh.He is a postgraduate student who graduated from Lucknow University in 1998 with a Master of Arts in Medieval History. Singh works as a lawyer and as a businessman. On May 18, 2001, he wed politician Swati Singh; they got divorced in April 2023. Singh is a Lucknow resident.
Political career
Singh, who is involved in Ballia politics, began his career in 1991 by running as an ABVP candidate in the Lucknow University student union elections. He served as the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha’s vice president and national secretary. In the 2007 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election, Singh had also run an unsuccessful campaign from Ballia. Singh ran as a candidate for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election from the Ballia Nagar constituency. He defeated Narad Rai of the Samajwadi Party by a margin of 23,239 votes, and in the process, he succeeded Anand Swaroop Shukla, a member of his own party.

As soon as an FIR was filed against Daya Shankar, he ran away from the fear of being caught. On 29 July 2016, he got arrested from the Buxar district of Bihar and was kept in judicial custody in Mau, Uttar Pradesh. His then-wife, Swati Singh lodged an FIR against the leaders of BSP for threatening their 12-year-old daughter and her mother-in-law under sections 120B (punishment for criminal conspiracy), 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups), 504 (intentional insult with intent to breach peace), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC in August 2016. After the FIR filed by his wife, Daya Shankar was released from the custody on 6 August 2016. When his wife, Swati Singh won the 2017 assembly election in Uttar Pradesh, suspension on Daya Shankar was revoked by the Bharatiya Janata Party and he rejoined the party. Fraud Case In 2014, a fraud case was lodged against Daya Shankar Singh and his brother for producing a forged bank guarantee of Rs. 60 lakhs for acquiring a dealership for the Mahindra and Mahindra agency in Haibatpur, Uttar Pradesh. Tractors and equipment worth more than Rs. 72 lakhs were provided to Daya Shankar for the agency till December 2015. After an enquiry was carried out by Subodh Kumar Singh, the deputy manager of Mahindra and Mahindra, with the State Bank of India, he got to know that no bank guarantee existed with the bank; therefore he filed an FIR. |
