Early life and Career
Yadav, born in Ajmer, Rajasthan on 30 June 1969, obtained his Bachelor’s and Bachelor of Laws degrees from Government College, Ajmer. He initially engaged in student politics and later became the general secretary of the Akhil Bhartiya Adhivakta Parishad from 2000 to 2009. Before entering politics, he practiced law in the Supreme Court and served as Government Counsel for significant Commissions, including the Liberhan Commission probing the 1992 Babri Masjid demolition and the Justice Wadhwa Commission investigating the murder of Graham Staines, an Australian missionary.
Politics
Yadav was named as the National Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2010 by Nitin Gadkari, who was the party’s president at the time. In 2012, he was elected as a Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha on 4th April. Subsequently, he assumed the role of National General Secretary of the BJP in 2014. Yadav played a crucial role as the war room strategist in ensuring significant wins for his party in the state elections of Rajasthan (2013), Gujarat (2017), Jharkhand (2014), and Uttar Pradesh (2017). He is currently overseeing the BJP’s activities for the 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections.
In July 2021, Yadav was appointed as a Cabinet Minister for Environment Forest & Climate Change and Labour & Employment in the Modi Cabinet. In his capacity as the Minister of Environment Forest & Climate Change, he advocated for India’s stance on altering the term ‘phase-out’ of coal to ‘phase-down’ in the final agreement of the 26th United Nations Conference of Parties (COP) held in Glasgow. He emphasized the right of developing countries to their equitable portion of the global carbon budget and their entitlement to the responsible utilization of fossil fuels.
