Early life
Puerto Rican parents gave birth to Garcia in North Philadelphia. Both his father and mother were from Naguabo and Bayamón, respectively. When he was 10 years old—the youngest age at which a minor was legally permit to train—his father, Ángel, who was also a fighter, took him to Philadelphia’s Harrowgate Boxing Club for his boxing education. Danny’s main boxing coach ever since has been Ángel. Being grown in the city that is home to the second-largest Puerto Rican community in the country, Danny express early in his professional life his desire to become the “next great Puerto Rican fighter” and his identification with his background.
