Christopher Anthony John Martin was born on 2 March 1977 in Exeter, Devon, England, the eldest of five children. His father, Anthony John Martin, is a retired chartered accountant, and his mother, Alison, a music teacher from Rhodesia. Martin’s family has a history in business; they operated a caravan and motorhome sales company called Martin’s of Exeter, founded in 1929 by his grandfather John Besley Martin, CBE. The business was sold by his father in 1999. Notably, Martin’s great-great-grandfather, William Willett, was a key figure in establishing daylight saving time. His paternal aunt, Elisabeth Jane, is married to Hon.
Martin’s education began at the Hylton School and continued at Exeter Cathedral School, where he discovered his love for music.
