Jasmin Walia was born in Essex, England, to parents of Indian heritage. She has a brother named Danny Walia.
Career
Walia began singing when she was about 7-8 years old and was the first in her family to do so. While watching television, she would imitate the performers in the lounge. In a Q&A session, she stated, “I used to sit there every Saturday night, performing “Over The Rainbow” to my father, and I believe that he picked up on the fact that I loved singing and enrolled me in singing classes.” She had a strong desire to perform on stage from an early age. She began attending theatrical school at the age of ten. She used to listen to Indian music and watch Bollywood films.
She completed four A levels, earning three As and a B, and then applied to the University of Cambridge to study philosophy, but was not accepted. She spent a few years working as a Customer Adviser for NatWest Bank. She also enrolled in an accountant course through the ACCA, but eventually dropped out.
