Political Career
On 4 July 2023, Kumar stepped down as Telangana party president, and on 21 July he was replaced by G. Kishan Reddy. On July 30, 2023 Kumar was announced as National General Secretary for BJP, and on 4 August 2023 he took up the post. He was appointed as Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs on 9 June 2025. Kumar was part of a student organization, holding various leadership roles. He campaigned with BJP in 1996. In 2005, he became a local council member until resigning in 2019 for a Lok Sabha seat. Despite being fielded by the BJP in state elections, he lost both times to Gangula Kamalakar from another party. In the 2019 Indian election, Kumar ran for BJP in Karimnagar. He competed against the incumbent MP and a Congress candidate. Kumar won with 89,508 votes. His victory surprised many due to BJP’s weak presence in Telangana. This win made him one of four BJP MPs from Telangana.
