Alexander Chapman Ferguson was born on December 31, 1941, at his grandmother’s home on Shieldhall Road in the Govan area of Glasgow. He was the son of Elizabeth (née Hardie) and Alexander Beaton Ferguson, with his father working as a plater’s helper in the shipbuilding industry.
