Sunil Philip Narine Carrer
Due of the increasing number of limited-overs events held worldwide, teams are looking for mystery spinners who can both bowl in the Powerplay and make significant contributions once field limits are lifted. One of the most effective mystery spinners in cricket history is Sunil Narine. Sunil Narine, who was born in Arima, Trinidad and Tobago, on May 26, 1988, initially caught the selectors’ attention when he claimed all ten wickets in a trial match.
In January 2009, he received a summons to the Trinidad & Tobago squad. While playing for Trinidad and Tobago in the now-defunct Champions League Twenty20 in 2011, he gained even more notoriety. The right-arm spinner’s breakthrough year was 2011, as seen by his steady performances that year.
Domestic and T20 franchise career
During the Regional Four Day Competition in February 2009, Sunil made his first-class cricket debut for Trinidad and Tobago, bowling thirteen overs without picking up a wicket.[3] After going wicketless in the opening over, he claimed two wickets in the second over, including that of Lionel Baker, the last man standing. He did not play another first-class match for almost a year.
Narine played his maiden Twenty20 (T20) match on January 20, 2011, at the Caribbean Twenty20, however he did not bowl because the match was called off due to rain before Trinidad & Tobago could bowl. Ultimately, Trinidad and Tobago emerged victorious in the tournament, with Narine securing five wickets at an average of 13.40. Trinidad and Tobago qualified for the 2011 Champions League Twenty20 as a result of winning the campaign.
International career
Narine was a member of the West Indies team that toured India in November and December of 2011. On December 6, he made his One Day International debut by dismissing Ravichandran Ashwin and Virat Kohli to lead the West Indies to a 16-run victory in the third match. In the final two games, which India won both, Narine grabbed one more wicket at a cost of 87 runs.
Back in the Caribbean, Narine participated in three of T&T’s six games in the Regional Four Day Competition in February 2012, claiming 31 wickets at an average of 9.61 to rank sixth overall and as the team’s top wicket-taker. Five ODIs marked the start of Australia’s trip after they landed in the West Indies in March.
Bowling action
Narine is known as a “mystery bowler” because of the changes in his off-break style and the way he covers them up, yet he has been accused of questionable bowling action on several occasions. He was banned from bowling in international cricket in November 2015 for an unlawful action including a bent arm of more than 15 degrees, which prevented him from participating in the Champions League Twenty20 final in 2014. His actions during the third ODI match against Sri Lanka were reported. He received clearance to bowl in both domestic and international cricket formats in April 2016. During the 2018 Pakistan Super League, Narine’s actions were once more reported; however, they were soon cleared.
