Smriti Mandhana becomes first Indian woman to score consecutive ODI centuries, matches Mithali Raj’s sensational feat

India’s women’s cricket team player Smriti Mandhana set two impressive records in the second ODI against South Africa. Mandhana scored 136 runs in 120 balls at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. India aims to win the series after defeating South Africa by 143 runs in the first match at the same venue. In Bengaluru’s first game, Mandhana scored 117 runs with 12 boundaries and one six. This led India to a total of 265 for eight, winning the match. No other player scored over 40 runs. On Wednesday, she continued her great form by scoring another century, making 136 runs. This helped India recover after being two wickets down at 100 runs in 23 overs.

With the hit, Mandhana is the first Indian female cricketer with back-to-back tons in Test cricket. Sandhya Agarwal achieved this in 1986. This knock also equals Mithali Raj’s seven centuries in ODIs, placing them 10th all-time. Meg Lanning tops with 15 tons. Among openers, she ranks joint third after Suzie Bates (12) and Tammy Beaumont/Charlotte Edwards (9). This was Mandhana’s best ODI score, surpassing her previous 135 against South Africa in 2018. It’s India’s fourth-highest individual score in women’s ODIs and the third-highest for an opener.

The current series is part of the 2022–2025 ICC Women’s Championship cycle. It involves a one-day competition among 10 teams to decide qualification for the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup. India is already qualified as the host. Australia has won the last two cycles. The final match against South Africa will be on June 23 in Bengaluru, followed by a Test match in Chennai and three T20I games.
