Early life
Chopra was born to a Persian Muslim mother and a Punjabi Christian father in Hyderabad, India. Her older brother is a software engineer who is based in New Zealand, and her sister is an emcee. Her parents met in Iran for the first time. Her family used to be active members of the Methodist Church, where Sherlyn was so devoted that she instantly broke down in tears and recited Psalms 119 aloud in front of the congregation. Her family also speaks Hindi, English, and Urdu at home. She was a devoted student at Stanley Girls High School, where she also emerged as a geek and had no friends. As the school topper, she passed out. She was later accepted to Secunderabad’s Saint Ann’s College for Women.
After winning the title of “Miss Andhra” in 1999, she became more interested in show business. According to Chopra, her protracted battle with her job ended in sexual exploitation within the industry, which in turn made her one of the prominent figures in India’s “Me Too” campaign.

Career
Chopra began her acting career in Bollywood movies as a leading lady. She starred in several films, including Red Swastik, Game, and Time Pass. • Tiff with Raj Kundra
On 19 October 2021, Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and her businessman-husband Raj Kundra sent a 50-crore defamation notice to Chopra for ruining their reputation by making “false and baseless” allegations against them. They also sought an unconditional public apology from Chopra in leading newspapers and on digital media platforms within seven days. However, she did not fulfill their demand and was arrested by the police. Earlier, Chopra had filed a complaint against Shetty and Kundra at the Juhu police station and accused the couple of committing fraud against her; she also levelled allegations of harassment, cheating, and criminal intimidation against them.
• Fued with Rupesh Paul
In 2014, she had a tiff with Rupesh Paul, director of the English film ‘Kamasutra 3D.’ A few days after the shooting of the film began, it was shelved. Sherlyn then tweeted abusive words against Rupesh. She also filed a police compliant against him for not paying her fees. In one of her tweets, while talking about him, she wrote,
Gobar ke murrabbe ko pata toh chale ki uska paala kis type ki ladki se padaa, and Rupesh ko nanga dekhne ke khauf se Dhritarashtra janm se hi andha tha.”Later, Rupesh filed a defamation case against her. However, a few years later, they resolved their differences.
• Police Complaint Against Rakhi Sawant
In 2023, she filed a police complaint against the Indian model and actor Rakhi Sawant for using objectionable comments. The complaint was filed under multiple sections of the IPC and IT Act. According to the compliant, Rakhi had shared an objectionable video of Chopra during a press conference.
