Early life and family
Rakhi Sawant was born on November 25, 1978, in Mumbai, as Neeru Bheda, to Jaya Bheda. Following Jaya’s marriage to Worli Police Station constable Anand Sawant, Rakhi took on her stepfather’s last name. Sawant made his acting debut as Ruhi Sawant in the movie Agnichakra, but he later changed his name to Rakhi Sawant. She also has a sister, Usha Sawant, and a brother, Rakesh Sawant.
Career
As Ruhi Sawant, she made her feature début in the 1997 movie Agnichakra. She continued with Bollywood flicks Joru Ka Ghulam, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hain, and Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke, where she had modest roles and dance routines. Controversies | • In 2005, she had a lip-lock with her co-star Kainaaz Pervez at the premiere of the film ‘Khamoshh…Khauff Ki Raat.’

She also accused Tanushree of raping her not once, but multiple times. For her allegation, Tanushree sued her for ₹10 crore to which Rakhi threatened her with a countersuit of ₹50 crore. An FIR was filed against Rakhi Sawant in October 2023 by Tanushree Dutta who accused her of causing mental trauma due the 2018 Me Too case. The FIR was filed at the Oshiwara Police Station in Mumbai. Tanushree later addressed the matter in an interview and said,I have come here to file an FIR against Rakhi Sawant for the psychological trauma that she caused in 2018 during the Me Too Movement. There are many penal codes added to the FIR based on multiple reasons.”
