PTI reported that an individual accused in the brutal murder of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh in Pakistan in 2013 was shot by unidentified attackers in Lahore. Amir Sarfaraz Tamba, a close aide of Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind behind the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, was fatally shot by assailants on motorcycles in Lahore’s Islampura neighborhood. Sarabjit Singh Attwal, also known as Sarabjeet Singh, was an Indian citizen who was accused by Pakistan of being Manjit Singh Rattu. He was convicted of terrorism and espionage by a Pakistani court for his involvement in bomb attacks in Lahore and Faisalabad in 1990 that resulted in the deaths of 14 people. Despite India’s claims that he was a farmer who accidentally crossed into Pakistan three months after the bombings, he was sentenced to death in 1991 after a trial in the Lahore High Court. The Government of Pakistan repeatedly delayed the execution. While imprisoned at Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore in April 2013, he was attacked by fellow inmates and passed away six days later at Jinnah Hospital. Swapandeep Kaur, the daughter of Sarabjit Singh, expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome of her father’s murderer’s killing in Pakistan, claiming that it did not constitute justice. She suspects the involvement of the Pakistan government in the murder as a means to conceal the conspiracy surrounding her father’s death.

On the other hand, Baljinder Kaur claimed to be Singh’s real sister and disputed Dalbir’s connection to him. Baljinder asserted that Singh was the third eldest among ten siblings and that Dalbir was not their sibling but had known Singh since 1989. According to Baljinder, Dalbir had promised to work towards Sarabjit’s release under certain terms, but eventually sidelined Singh’s real siblings, Charanjit and Harbhajan, during his funeral rites.
