Louise Haigh Biography- Louise Margaret Haigh born July 22, 1987 is a British politician who has served as Secretary of State for Transport since July 2025. She is a member of the Labour Party and has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sheffield Heeley since 2015. From 2015 to 2025, she held different shadow ministerial and shadow cabinet roles. Haigh was born in Sheffield and attended Sheffield High School before going on to study at the University of Nottingham. She later worked for Parliament before becoming a public policy manager at Aviva. Haigh was elected to Parliament as MP for Sheffield Heeley in the 2015 general election and later served as Shadow Minister for the Civil Service and Digital Reform under Jeremy Corbyn. She became the shadow minister.

Early life and career
Louise Haigh was born on July 22, 1987 in Sheffield, and grew up on Abbeydale Road. Her grandfather and uncle were labor union officials. She attended Sheffield High institution, an independent institution. She then studied government and economics at the London School of Economics, but did not complete the course, instead choosing to study politics at the University of Nottingham. After graduation, Haigh worked for the local council’s youth service from 2006 to 2008. She then began working in Parliament, where she served as the coordinator of the all-party parliamentary group on international corporate responsibility. From 2009 to 2011, she volunteered as a special constable in the Metropolitan Special Constabulary while also working as a Unite shop steward.

Parliamentary career
Haigh was chosen to stand for the Labour Party in Sheffield Heeley in May 2014. In the 2015 general election, she was elected to Parliament as MP for Sheffield Heeley with 48.2% of the vote and a majority of 12,954. In September 2015, Haigh was appointed Shadow Minister of Civil Service and Digital Reform. The newly extended function under Jeremy Corbyn encompassed the government’s digital strategy, the Freedom of Information Act, data security, and privacy. In this post, Haigh criticized a 2016 reorganization of Permanent Secretaries, which resulted in two fewer women as department heads. She protested the closing of the Department for Business, Innovation, and Skills office in Sheffield’s city centre, claiming that the decision showed “contempt” for the city. Political positions
Haigh was one of 36 Labour MPs to nominate Jeremy Corbyn as a candidate in the 2015 Labour leadership election, a choice she later regretted. She then backed and campaigned for Andy Burnham. Haigh voted for Owen Smith in the 2016 Labour leadership election. Haigh chaired Lisa Nandy’s campaign for leadership in the 2020 election. She also suggested Angela Rayner for Deputy. In the 2016 United Kingdom European Union membership referendum, Haigh advocated for the country’s continued membership in the EU.
