Blades and her sister, who is also a wrestler, went to Wyoming Seminary in Pennsylvania, the first American high school with a girls wrestling program. During high school, Blades traveled internationally to compete against wrestlers from various countries such as Japan, Russia, Estonia, Austria, and Sweden. She achieved several national championships, including the U.S. cadet national championship in 2018 and the U16, U17, and junior national championships in 2019. At 17, she was the runner-up at the U.S.

trials for the 2020 Summer Olympics, where she lost to Tamyra Mensah-Stock. Following high school, she joined the Sunkist Kids wrestling club in Arizona and started attending Arizona State University.
