Career
Noble’s acting career began in theater during the 1970s and 1980s. For a decade, he served as the artistic director for the Stage Company of South Australia and was involved in the Adelaide Festival Centre as a Trustee and chairman of the Adelaide Festival of the Arts. In 1979, he starred in Errol Flynn’s Great Big Adventure Book for Boys at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland. His contributions to the arts led to a nomination for the Young Australian of the Year award by South Australian Premier John Bannon in 1984.
At age 40, Noble made his film debut in the 1988 horror film The Dreaming. He also made occasional appearances on the television series All Saints. Noble gained international recognition for his portrayal of Denethor, the Steward of Gondor, in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. He later portrayed Anatoly Markov, the Russian Consul, in the sixth season of 24.
