Early Life and Education
Born in Midland, Texas, on July 23, 1961, Woody Harrelson is the son of Diane a secretary, and Charles Voyde Harrelson, a convicted hitman. Raised in a Presbyterian household, Woody has two brothers, Jordan and Brett, the latter also becoming an actor. His father was sentenced to life in prison for the 1979 murder of federal judge John H. Wood Jr., and Harrelson has said he had little contact with his father during his childhood. Charles Harrelson passed away in 2007 at the United States Penitentiary, Administrative Maximum Facility.
Harrelson’s family faced financial struggles, relying on his mother’s income. He attended The Briarwood School in Houston, Texas, and in 1973, moved to Lebanon, Ohio, his mother’s hometown. There, he graduated from Lebanon High School in 1979. That summer, Harrelson worked at the Kings Island amusement park.

In 2008, Harrelson married Laura Louie, a co-founder of the organic food delivery service Yoganics. The two had met in 1987 when she worked as his personal assistant.
