Early life and education
Martin, an electrician, and Christine, a postmistress, welcomed Whiley into the world in Northampton. After attending Bugbrooke’s Campion School, which is close to Northampton, she went on to study applied languages at Brighton Polytechnic. Her team, Northamptonshire, was her home pool.

Career
Whiley was still undecided about her career path in her last year of college, a conversation with a lecturer helped her land a position with BBC Radio Sussex on the show Turn It Up.
