About Jhye Richardson Biography

Richardson was acquired by the Mumbai Indians during the IPL 2023 auction. Following surgery in March 2023 to address hamstring issues, he is set to sit out the entire 2023 IPL season. Richardson’s T20I debut for Australia was in February 2017 against Sri Lanka, and he made his ODI debut against England in January 2018. Despite being named in Australia’s Test squad for the series against South Africa in March 2018, he did not get to play. Cricket Australia awarded him a national contract for the 2018–19 season in April 2018.

Richardson was selected for the ODI series against India in January 2019. He achieved his career-best figures by dismissing Indian captain Virat Kohli in the first game, contributing to Australia’s 1,000th international win. Subsequently, he joined Australia’s Test squad for the series against Sri Lanka, debuting on 24 January 2019 with three wickets in the first innings. Richardson was honored with the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year award in 2018. He played a key role in Australia’s comeback in the ODI series against India in March 2019, securing 8 wickets and helping the team win the series 3-2 after being down 0-2.

During the following series against Pakistan in the UAE in March 2019, Richardson dislocated his shoulder while diving in the outfield in the second match. Despite this, he was selected for Australia’s squad for the 2019 Cricket World Cup in April 2019. The International Cricket Council identified Richardson as one of the five promising talents debuting in the Cricket World Cup. Nonetheless, he had to withdraw from the tournament and was substituted by Kane Richardson in the squad. Richardson achieved his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket during the second Ashes match against England in December 2021.
