He asked his girlfriend, Jaya Bhardwaj, who lives in Delhi, to marry him during the final league game of his team’s 2021 Indian Premier League campaign.
Chahar made his first-class cricket debut in the 2010–11 Ranji Trophy against Hyderabad, taking eight wickets for ten runs (8/10). With just 21 runs scored, Hyderabad was bowled out—the lowest total in Ranji Trophy history. Chahar quickly signed a youth contract with the Rising Pune Supergiants, an Indian Premier League Twenty20 cricket team, thanks to his swing bowling. Working with foreign trainers Ian Pont and Catherine Dalton, he participated in Rajasthan’s development camp in Jaipur in October 2016.
He was purchased by Chennai Super Kings in the January 2018 IPL auction. was included in the India B team for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy in October 2018. He was purchased by Chennai Super Kings in February 2022 during the Indian Premier League 2022 auction.
International career
Chahar was included in the Indian Twenty20 International (T20I) team roster for their May 2018 tour of England.[15] On July 8, 2018, he made his T20I debut, getting one wicket. Against Afghanistan in September of 2018, he played in his first One Day International during the 2018 Asia Cup.
In 2019, Chahar was chosen for the Indian Twenty20 team to play the West Indies. He participated in the series finale and took three wickets for four runs to win player of the match. Later, he was chosen for the T20I series against Bangladesh, which consisted of three matches.
