Dinesh Karthik was born in Chennai, India. He started playing cricket at age 10 after living in Kuwait. Karthik studied in schools in India and Kuwait. His father, a cricketer, coached him. Karthik’s dad trained him early to avoid career obstacles. He practiced reflexes by catching hard balls. Initially a batsman, he later learned wicket-keeping and was praised for his fitness. Karthik progressed consistently through the junior levels, debuting for Tamil Nadu under-14 in early 1999 before moving up to the under-19 team in the 2000/2001 season. Domestic career
Karthik played his first-class debut in late 2002 against Baroda as a wicket-keeper. He participated in five round-robin matches, accumulating 179 runs at an average of 35.80. His highest score of 88 not out was achieved against Uttar Pradesh in his second match. However, Karthik’s performance declined afterward, and he did not surpass 20 runs for the rest of the season.
