Clifton Davis was born on October 4, 1945, in Chicago, and has enjoyed a career spanning over four decades. In addition to being an actor, Davis is also a minister and songwriter. During his time at Pine Forge Academy in Pennsylvania, where he graduated in 1963, Davis showcased his talents as both a singer and orator, becoming accustomed to performing in front of an audience. He and a classmate even composed their class song. At the age of 21, while working as a video engineer at ABC Television, Davis attended his first-ever Broadway show, The Apple Tree, starring Alan Alda. He was so captivated by the humor and realism of the performance that it inspired him to pursue a career in the performing arts.

Clifton Davis was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Thelma van Putten Langhorn, a nurse, and Toussaint L’Ouverture Davis, a Seventh-day Adventist minister. He grew up in Mastic, New York, and graduated from Pine Forge Academy, a historically Black boarding school run by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Davis earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from Oakwood University and a Master of Divinity degree from Andrews University. He is also a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
