Early Life
Cifuentes was born in Sant Cugat del Vallès, located in the province of Barcelona, Catalonia. He spent his playing days exclusively at the amateur level. A product of the Sant Cugat FC youth system, he later played for CFU Mirasol-Baco and UE Sant Quirze Besora. Eventually, he decided to dedicate himself entirely to coaching. In an interview with La Vanguardia, he candidly referred to himself as a “mediocre” player.
Career
Martí Cifuentes began his coaching journey with the youth teams at CE Sabadell, later becoming assistant to first-team coach Manolo Fernández in 2006. He then held roles at Terrassa FC and spent time in the youth systems of both Ajax and Millwall between 2008 and 2009, gaining valuable international experience. he joined Rubí as manager of their Juvenil (youth) team. On 29 May 2013, he was promote to manage Rubí’s first team in Spain’s Tercera División. His time there ended on 12 February 2014, when he moved up to Segunda División B to take over UE Sant Andreu, replacing Patxi Salinas.
Cifuentes successfully help Sant Andreu avoid relegation and was confirm to continue as manager for the 2014–15 season. However, he was dismiss in August 2014, shortly before the season began. On 18 May 2015, he took over at CE L’Hospitalet, another third-division club, but was sack on 29 March 2016. Cifuentes move to Sweden, where he became head coach of AIK’s reserve team and academy, marking the beginning of his coaching career abroad.
