Tyler Herro was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and attended Whitnall High School in Greenfield. As a senior, he was named to the First Team All-State after averaging 32.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 3.3 steals per game. He shot over 50% from the field and 43.5% from three-point range, finishing his high school career with more than 2,000 total points. During high school, Herro received multiple scholarship offers, including from Wisconsin–Madison, Marquette, DePaul, Oregon State, and Arizona State.
