Early Life and Education
Born in San Diego on December 29, 1947, Danson is the son of Edward Bridge “Ned” Danson Jr., an archaeologist and curator at the Museum of Northern Arizona, and Jessica Harriet (née MacMaster). He has an older sister, Jessica Ann “Jan” Haury. Danson grew up in Flagstaff, Arizona, and has Scottish and English ancestry, with roots tracing back to colonial New England, including historical figures such as Anne Hutchinson.
At age 14, Danson enrolled at Kent School, a preparatory school in Connecticut, where he excelled in basketball. His interest in drama deepened while attending Stanford University, but he later transferred to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, seeking a stronger acting program. He graduated with a B.F.A. in Drama in 1972.
