Swara Bhasker was born into a Hindu family in Delhi. Her father, C. Uday Bhaskar, is an Indian Navy officer of Telugu descent, while her mother, Ira Bhaskar, is a professor of cinema studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University and has Bihari roots. Her maternal grandmother hails from Varanasi.
Growing up in Delhi, Bhasker attended Sardar Patel Vidyalaya for her schooling. She later studied English literature at Miranda House, Delhi University, where she was classmates with fellow actress Minissha Lamba. She also earned a master’s degree in sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University.
