Controversies

In the 1993 film Darr, directed by Yash Chopra, Deol portrayed the protagonist, while Shah Rukh Khan played the antagonist. Since Darr marked Deol and Chopra’s first joint venture, it was one of the most anticipated films of 1993. Darr had a strong beginning at the box office, which was primarily attributable to Deol’s performance. Deol felt deceived and misled by the filmmaker, whom he accused of elevating the antagonist and underplaying the protagonist, despite the movie’s financial success. He said that the cut scenes in the final version were not disclosed to him and that it was very different from what was first told to him. He and Chopra got into a furious fight about the movie’s ending, and he tore his pants in the process.
