- He joined a nearby school to learn to play the harmonium while he was in class 3, but he left after three months.
- When he was about nine years old, he watched older boys play hockey and became interested in it.
- At first, he needed to play hockey just until the public level to find an administration line of work.
- He said in an interview that because his hometown didn’t have the right equipment, he had to play hockey for the first two years with a broken hockey stick.
- My father would tape and nail it whenever it had a crack in the past. I played with that broken stick for two years.
- In recognition of Olympian Shamsher Singh’s contribution to the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, the Punjab Government changed the name of Government Senior Secondary School in Attari, Amritsar, Punjab, in 2021.
