Nadella was born in Hyderabad, India, into a Telugu-speaking Hindu family. His mother, Prabhavati, was a lecturer in Sanskrit, while his father, Bukkapuram Nadella Yugandhar, was an officer in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), part of the 1962 batch. Yugandhar was originally from Bukkapuram in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. The family has roots in Nadella village, located in the present-day Palnadu district (formerly Guntur district) of Andhra Pradesh.
